The family dog is very much a part of everyday activities, and Saanich recognizes this however they are not allowed to run loose. So that everyone can enjoy our parks here are a list of regulations for the pet owner in Saanich. Whether you are looking for Saanich real estate and want to know dog parks nearby, or have lived her for years and stiil aren't aware of the parks and regulations, this information is for you.  In each park be sure to clean up canine feces as all owners are required to.

General Restrictions  

Dogs are not to run loose in public areas the exception is if the dog is under the effective control of a competent person or is confined by a leash or chain.

Leash Requirements

  • They must be leashed or chained, confined in school grounds, within 10 metres ( 32.8 ft ) radius of any playground equipment in  Municipal or Regional Park
  • Lands known as the Lockside Trail
  • Within the Blenkinsop Lake area
  • Any trail located in Cedar Hill Park

Restrictions

Dogs are restricted at all times from the following areas:
  • Swan Lake / Christmas Hill Nature Sanctuary
  • Quick’s Bottom Park
  • Rithet’s Bog Conservation Area EXCEPT on the perimeter trail provided the dog is confined by leash or chain
  • Within a 50 metre ( 164 ft ) radius  of King’s Pond or Cedar Hill Park EXCEPT on the part of the perimeter trail provided the dog is secured by leash or chain

Seasonal Restrictions

Dogs are not to be in these areas from May 1 to October 3
  • Cadboro Bay/Gyro Park and the public beach at Cadboro Bay lying between the eastern boundary of Cadboro Bay-Gyro Park and the boundary of the municipality of Oak Bay EXCEPT before any day before 9 AM
  • Whitehead Park - Cordova Bay beach area lying between the southerly boundary of Cordova Bay Park and the northerly boundary of the Walena Avenue right of way with the EXCEPTION of any day before 9 AM any day
  • Mount Douglas Park beach as well as the part bounded by Cordova Bay Road, Ash Road, Douglas Creek and the natural boundary of the ocean, the northwesterly boundary of the Park the Exception being the asphalt road surface lying to the northwest of the picnic area and between the 2 gates
Dogs are not allowed in a fenced baseball field May 1 to October 31.
